dates back to the twelfth century, originally standing as a Romanesque edifice that was then renovated and reconstructed several times over the centuries.
Remains of its thirteenth century renovations can still be seen – the Heathen Towers (Heidentürme) and main gate are two good examples. Some other notable characteristics include the fourteenth century catacombs as well as the chapels of St Eligius, St Tirna and St Catherine.

The Hofburg Imperial Palace

The Hofburg, which has housed every Austrian ruler since 1275, is currently the official seat of the Austrian President and is a landmark attraction for its architectural qualities that reflect changing styles over the centuries: starting with Gothic and leading to Rococo movements.
The Hofburg’s most notable features include the Sisi Museum, the Silver Collection, the Imperial Chapel (Burgkapelle) and Imperial Apartments.

The Spanish Riding School In 1562, Emperor Maximilian II’s introduced Lipizzaner horses to his courtesans in this very establishment. The Spanish Riding School continues to display the equestrian talent of Vienna. Since 1736, the Baroque Winter Riding School has been based in the Hofburg Place grounds.
